From October 2021-April 2022 DYW Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian hosted a Jayden Anderson, a Business Skill Foundation Apprentice from North Berwick High School. Throughout his time with the team Jayden was based within the central team and worked a combination of in the office and from home, managed by our Business Support and Communications Officer, Emma Lacey.
What were the objectives of the placement?
Whilst with the DYW team Jayden was asked to work on creating two toolkits, one for inclusion and diversity and another for youth voice in DYW. He also created a roles and responsibilities guide for the team and wrote an article on what is DYW from his perspective as a young person.
Alongside these tasks Jayden was asked to review our website and programmes, attend events and meetings and support with administrative duties and communications.
At the end of his placement Jayden gave a presentation to the team about his placement.
What were the successes and benefits?
The overall placement was a great success, Jayden was a wonderful asset to the team. Having Jayden on placement with us allowed us to gain a young persons perspective on everything we do. It also gave us an extra pair of hands to create new resources and provided Emma with some great experience of managing and mentoring someone else.
Emma Lacey, Business Support and Communications Officer said:
“I really enjoyed having Jayden as part of the team, he was a fantastic asset. He was always willing to learn new things and completed everything to an exceptional standard. Foundation Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to get practical work experience and a qualification whilst still at school."
