For our spotlight in education we focus on and officially launch the great work of Louise Carroll, Ross High School East Lothian and Emma Whittingham, Lasswade High School, Midlothian; on creating our regional Curriculum Posters. Alongside this we highlight a fantastic tool which supports schools in getting the best employer engagement for young people.
The curriculum posters have been created to support educators, young people and parents to understand how what is learned in the classroom can relate to the world of work. The posters support delivery of the career education standards in the classroom.
Each curriculum poster highlights a number of the skills developed through the subject, relates these to the ‘Skills of The Future’ further connecting to jobs and some pathways to these roles.
The full set of posters can be downloaded HERE.
The posters, even though they are hot off the press, are already being featured in classrooms around our region and we have captured some practical examples of use to date:
Teachers are already using the resources in a variety of ways;
Please do keep us updated on how you are using the posters.
We also see the launch nationally of a strategic toolkit and framework which supports schools to develop an evidence based understanding of what employer engagement activities work best for young people at different ages and stages of their educational experience. The tool can be accessed HERE and offer templates for identifying gaps, establishing priorities and reflecting on established relationships. Our influence Partnership groups will be exploring these tools further and the DYW team are happy to offer support for the use of these in schools.
As always, let us know your good practice around DYW so we can share across our region.
