The attached worksheet is intended to be shared with students at your schools, asking them to challenge their perceptions of what it means to be a Scientist or an Engineer.
The sections are split so as to allow as much engagement as is possible at individual schools. We encourage teachers to build on the sections if your school’s circumstances permit – for example, in the “Invention Lab” this could be extended beyond a drawn picture to ask students to actually build and show a prototype of their invention.
The final section “Time to ask us” invites the students to submit any questions about STEM subjects and careers they may have. The replies from this section will be collated and answered by a wide range of our colleagues from different backgrounds, to provide insight into different jobs and career paths, and hopefully inspire young people who may have science or engineering aspirations. These questions should be written down, or in video form, but any videos must have clear written consent attached to allow sharing on social media platforms.
