Returning for a 5th year Jobs Roadshow will see around 70 employers with live vacancies come face to face with young people at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange on Wednesday 4th March with the aim to get Scotland’s future workforce Informed, Inspired and Hired.
Nationally, Developing the Young Workforce announced ‘Youth unemployment has decreased by 48%’ however; there is a complex picture underneath this headline position, and one in which it is apparent that some groups of young people are particularly disadvantaged.
In this edition the spotlight is firmly on the group of pupils from Drummond Community High School who have well and truly been inspired by a partnership programme between industry and education.
The Young Enterprise Scotland Company Programme has been a consistent part of many school’s programme of learning in Scotland for many years. This year at James Gillespies High School in Edinburgh, as part of the S5 choice electives which take place during period 1 on a Wednesday, eight of their young people have opted to join the Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) Company Programme which is the ultimate business experience for S5 and S6 pupils in Scottish High Schools.
Understanding what money is and how to manage it is a basic life skill that all young people should be given an opportunity to learn. The Museum on the Mound, Lloyds Banking Group and the University of Edinburgh Business School have been working in partnership to deliver an exciting new financial education project for primary pupils in Edinburgh to help them do exactly this.
